Beyond its breathtaking landscapes and extraordinary biodiversity, Socotra is home to a rich cultural heritage shaped by generations of island’s communities. Through its environmental awareness and education campaigns, Discover Socotra worked alongside schools across the archipelago to inspire young Socotris and schoolchildren to understand, appreciate, and protect the remarkable world around them.
Inspiring the Next Generation to Protect Paradise
The campaign has successfully targeted around 400 students from different education levels ranged from 6 grade to 9 grade at a number of schools on Socotra including:
- Salah Al Deen Primary School
- Hafij Primary School
- Ali Bin Abi Talib Primary School
- Muath Bin Jabel Primary School

Environmental and Cultural Issues that been Addressed
Through interactive workshops, field visits, and locally inspired learning, students discovered the endemic plant species, wildlife, and unique ecosystems that make Socotra unlike anywhere else on Earth. The program also celebrated the island’s traditions, folklore, and local knowledge—showing how deeply Socotra’s natural and cultural heritage are intertwined.

For Discover Socotra, protecting this extraordinary island and its unique biodiversity and ecosystems begins with the people who call it home. By empowering the next generation with knowledge, awareness, curiosity, and pride in their heritage, the campaign helps ensure that Socotra’s wild landscapes, unique natural and cultural, and timeless spirit can continue to inspire generations of travelers to come.
